Reading
Our reading curriculum incorporates elements of whole language, phonics, and sight words. Students are placed into daily reading groups based on reading level in order to maximize learning.
Mathematics
The math program uses manipulative materials as well as visuals. Having a hands on approach to math helps students to better understand problem solving and equations. First graders will learn how to write numbers, count, add and subtract single and double-digit numbers, tell time, and count money.
Writing
First graders will learn how to form sentences and tell stories based on sequences. All students will have writing journals which will be used daily in class. Students' stories will be published throughout the year.
